Our Mission
We are dedicated to
improving the quality of
our lives and preserving
our natural spaces
through the study and
practice of outdoor
photography as a
creative medium.
Our Philosophy
We believe that a
mutually beneficial
relationship with the
natural world and the
personal practice of
creative expression are
vital elements in our
quest for wholeness as
human beings. This
belief guides us as we
strive to produce
world-class educational
programs in the art and
science of outdoor
photography.
Our Inspiration
The Institute is
inspired by New York’s
Adirondack Park, a
vast natural wonderland
of crystal lakes,
breathtaking mountains
and abundant wildlife.
At over six million
acres, the Park is about
twice the size of
Yellowstone and Yosemite
National Parks combined.
All of this is within a
day’s drive of many of
the largest metropolitan
centers in the eastern
U.S.
As intensely
beautiful as the
Adirondacks are, they
also loom large in the
ongoing environmental
debate.
Environmental concerns,
which we hear about on
an almost daily basis
and include global
warming, acid rain and
invasive species, are in
actuality having a
profound impact on the
Park and its future.
We hope that our efforts
at the Institute will
bolster the role of
outdoor photography as a
powerful tool to be used
toward the preservation
of the Adirondacks and
our other natural
spaces.
