Overview |
|
The fabled landscape of the Eastern
Shore is a region of subtle nuances and
striking coastal vistas. The region reaches a crescendo
at the quaint fishing village of Chincoteague.
This island community offers much in terms of nature
photography, especially during the autumn season. With
mild temperatures, no mosquitoes, and less crowds, the
island will serve as our launching point to explore this
special area of the Mid-Atlantic seaboard. |
|
While we will explore the village
itself, most of our time will be spent exploring and
photographing at the Chincoteague National Wildlife
Refuge and the
Assateague Island
National Seashore. Here we’ll have a range of nature
subjects including birds, otters, wild horses, and
landscapes of tidal marshes, loblolly forests, and
coastal beaches. Roadside opportunities for wildlife
photography abound along the refuge road auto-tour
route, but we’ll also hike along some trails winding
through the forests and coastal marshes.
|
|
We’ll also visit
the fishing
village
of
Crisfield,
which is located on the Chesapeake Bay side of the
Delmarva Peninsula.
Here we’ll spend a late afternoon photographing the
oyster boats as they make their way back to port to
unload their daily catch.
|
|
Our daily schedule will include early
mornings in the field, followed by a classroom session
to critique images that either you bring or have taken
that morning. This will also provide us time to answer
any questions you might have about any aspect of nature
photography. After lunch, we will reconvene in the
classroom for a second critique session and also to
discuss various creative techniques, technical issues,
digital processing and printing, etc. By mid-afternoon,
we’ll embark on an evening photo-shoot, followed by a
post-sunset dinner location of our choosing on the
island.
