Overview |
|
Award-winning photographer and writer Lisa Densmore
leads this unique workshop on how to turn experiences in
the field into magazine articles and photographs.
While there are many writers and many
photographers, few have the ability to combine these
skills effectively.
At the same time, magazines, newspapers and book
publishers frequently desire writers who can also shoot
(and vice versa).
With good writing skills, a photographer improves the
chance of having images published, and gains more income
per article. |
|
|
|
This workshop takes participants
through the steps of creating an article-photo package.
The class writes and shoots material on a
simulated assignment while gaining valuable tips on how
to develop article ideas and how to present them to
editors.
|
|
|
|
The first evening, you will look at
different types of article-photo formats to learn what
works for publication and what does not.
You will gain a better understanding of the
difference between fine arts images and editorial
images, with a concentration on what makes a good
editorial image.
You will also look at examples of compelling
stories that catch an editor’s eye, including a number
of Lisa’s articles and photographs from a variety of
publications.
|
|
|
|
On Saturday, the class will spend the morning in the
field with both camera and notepad “on assignment”.
You will hike to a scenic point, observing the
trail, the flora, the fauna and the scenery along the
way both with pen and camera.
Upon returning to the classroom, Lisa will work
with you to develop your story idea for a targeted
publication.
|
|
|
|
On the last morning, you will
select images to accompany your story. Lisa will review
acceptable formats, image sizing, number of images in a
submission, black & white versus color submissions and
the latest trends in the editorial photography business.
