Overview   This region is the most water-saturated in the Adirondack Park, with a wide variety of lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, waterfalls, and boreal bogs.  They present a wealth of photographic opportunities unrivaled in New York State.  The region includes the pristine St. Regis Canoe Wilderness as well as many nearby waters under consideration for Quiet Water designation, and the St. Regis, Saranac, and Bog Rivers, and Bog River Falls.
The Adirondacks’ unique mix of mountains, woods, and water makes the landscape enchanting.  Water reflects its many moods and doubles the beauty through reflection.
Mark Bowie is an authority on the region, having photographed it extensively for his books, Adirondack Waters: Spirit of the Mountains and The Adirondacks: In Celebration of the Seasons.
Mark will be guiding outdoor shooting sessions to many of his favorite locations and presenting indoor sessions on the art of photographing water.  He’ll explore the impact of varying shutter speeds, the use of filters, and techniques to capture reflections.  He’ll give special emphasis to capturing images digitally, applying state-of-the-art multiple-shot techniques, including stitching panoramas, capturing and creating high dynamic range images, combining separate exposures in Photoshop, processing RAW files separately for highlights and shadows, and techniques for expanding resolution and depth of field.
Schedule   Weather-permitting, participants will typically shoot for several hours around sunrise and sunset, during the best light of the day.
Afternoons are generally used for presentations, critique and discussions. However, if exceptional lighting conditions present themselves the instructor may opt to shoot during the afternoon also.
